DRUIDS SAY GO remains a red-hot favourite for Wednesday’s Click Competitions 78th East Anglian Greyhound Derby Final at Yarmouth after repeating her heat victory in last week’s semi-finals – albeit local star Murrow Inkosi heads into the midweek £15,000-to-the-winner showpiece as the fastest semi-final winner.

The Richard Fitch-trained runner will line up as one of three unbeaten runners in the competition into the final – along with Druids Say Go and Swift Depot, who also followed up his heat victory – but clockwatchers will point to Murrow Inkosi’s 27.55sec (normal) victory as setting the standard heading into Wednesday’s showdown.

Lining up in the third semi-final, the June 2022 son of Pestana and Lemon Stacey soon led and set a decent tempo up front and, while the always handy Getup Me Son (Carol Weatherall) showed up well heading into the final turns to take up the running, Murrow Inkosi came again on the run for home for a length and a quarter success.

Swift Depot, a six-bend open-race winner, again finished full of running to strike for John Mullins in the first semi-final to kick-start a good night for local runners.

Led early by trackmate Trumpers Bobcat (Kevin Cobbold) and Newcastle’s Bramble Linton (Steve Anderson), the latter took control at the first bend and went clear but the Yarmouth duo proved too strong, with Swift Depot coming through powerfully off the last bend to score by a length and three-quarters from Trumpers Bobcat in 27.68sec (normal).

Druids Say Go consolidated her position as ante-post favourite for the famous competition with a comfortable victory in the second semi-final as Patrick Janssens’ Coral Golden Sprint finalist was soon in command inside on her way to a two and a quarter lengths win from Swindon raider Nowhere To Go (Sally Johnson) in 27.72sec (normal).

Yarmouth Stadium director Simon Franklin is once again looking forward to the seaside venue’s biggest night of the year, which this year will feature in a special Gone To The Dogs – Live! broadcast to be streamed live on YouTube (see below).

“It’s a new initiative and we’re more than happy to support it,” said Franklin. “It adds more attention to our biggest race of the year which is obviously a positive and hopefully we’ve got a great night to look forward to. There’s been plenty going on behind the scenes and the weather looks set fair for this year, which is always a good sign!

“This is a busy week for the town with the Eastern Racing Festival and I know plenty of people who enjoy their horse racing during the day and greyhound racing at night – it should make for a great atmosphere. The restaurant has been booked solid for weeks now and we’ve got an all-open race card for customers to look forward to.”

Trap draw for Wednesday’s Click Competitions 78th East Anglian Greyhound Derby Final: 1 Druids Say Go, 2 Trumpers Bobcat, 3 Murrow Inkosi (m), 4 Nowhere To Go (m), 5 Swift Depot (m), 6 Getup Me Son (m).
